Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

OPM Posts First Comprehensive List of Properties

It's a list, not a searchable database (see this example from Arlington County for a form of such--CAPTrack Capital Projects Database), but it is a start.

From email:

The District Office of Property Management (OPM) has posted on its Web page the first comprehensive list of properties owned or controlled by D.C. government, including parcels owned by DC Public Schools, the D.C. Housing Authority and other DC Government authorities (go to: opm.dc.gov, click on D.C. Properties under Information) .

"We are pleased to post this 70-page comprehensive list of DC properties," said Lars Etzkorn, OPM director. "Citizens, businesses and all other interested parties can now more easily know what real estate their District Government owns or controls. OPM will continue to improve the data and increase its user-friendliness. "

Properties which show federal ownership are governed by agreements giving the District jurisdiction of the parcel. The list by square and lot is based primarily on the records of the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue and on the best available information as of the date of the report. Title searches have not been conducted. The list is updated periodically.
