Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Under the influence...

From correspondence:

BTW, I went to a party a couple of weeks ago and ended up having a conversation (that we pulled in others to join) about your blog with a friend of mine who is also a reader of yours. It was an extended conversation about Jane Jacobs, development, MFA programs, graffiti, historic preservation. It was like your blog had come alive and landed into a drunken conversation in studio apartment in Columbia Heights.

It was very surreal. I had to reveal my cover -- that I am XXXX [edited]. It was sort of my commentor coming out moment.

Anyway, thought you'd be interested that your blog makes for a conversation starter at parties.
--------
It's harder for me to blog these days because of work, and other stuff. I keep a kind of tally of things I want to write about, but things like computer crashes, bicycle breakdowns, missed buses (yes WMATA, where was the 9:50 PM G8 bus last night--I know, it blew through 5-8 minutes early...), seeing a (very) occasional movie, reading a book, etc. keeps me behind.
