Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Coney Island...

I won't be blogging for the next few days as I want to check out Coney Island before it is completely obliterated. See "New York's Famous," from Preservation Magazine.

However, according to "Paving over fun" from the New York Times:

... Mr. Sitt’s $1.5 billion plan to create some sort of enclosed, multimedia 21st-century amusement park, complete with time-sharing hotels, [is] “dead in the water.”

Still, it should be fun.
