Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Another reason to love Project for Public Spaces

(One way you seed innovation in a city is by having innovative community and citywide groups... don't get me started on that. Check out Municipal Art Society, Transportation Alternatives, Gotham Gazette, and City Limits/Center for an Urban Future in NYC--and that doesn't even include neighborhood-borough based groups like the Brooklyn Resource and Information Center. Maybe before I die I will get the Citizens Planning Coalition fully revived and innovative...)
