Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Wait till next year....

(In honor of the Brooklyn Dodgers ...)

Ken provides us with two links to stories at Gotham Gazette (hmm, my e-subscription seems to have lapsed...) about coordinated Parking "squats" around NYC in honor of International Car Free Day. Sponsors for Park(ing) day in New York City include Transportation Alternatives, the Trust for Public Land and Rebar.

--My Park is More Important Than Your Parking Space

I am committed to help organize this for next yearin DC (somehow, it would be nice to do this in all the quadrants in the city) ... In the meantime for this year, there is a bunch going on in DC too. Check out the CarFree DC website.
