Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Apparently the DC United group

has no intention of replying to the Poplar Point RFEI that DC Government released for the Poplar Point property. Since when does "mixed use" mean athletic stadium, as it seems to in discussions by Councilmember Marion Barry. (Note that one of CM Barry's former chiefs of staff now works for McFarlane Partners, owners of DC United.) See "MacFarlane Criticizes Fenty's Office Over Stadium Talks," from the Post.

(Also see this article from the San Francisco Business Times about Mr. McFarlane, "Urban Pioneer.")
