Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Missing Jane Jacobs and other goodies

See the entry from the Atlantic Yards Report about original chapters written by Robert Caro for The Power Broker, but were excised because of the length of the book.

The author's wife is quoted as saying that the chapters can surface once the author's papers are sold.

Instead, how about a monograph with these missing chapters, which are on the Port Authority, the Brooklyn Dodgers debacle (there is a great documentary now on HBO about the Dodgers and the O'Malley-Moses tug of war), and Jane Jacobs among others...
