Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

More on St. Pancras

an excellent piece from The Guardian, "Not just a building, but a joy to behold. Ken Livingstone must hate St Pancras. In part, the story is about the value of historic preservation and saving old, quality buildings. See "St Pancras faced demolition ball," and this photo gallery from the BBC.
Paul Day's "The Meeting Place," St. Pancras Station, London

The sculpture "The Meeting Place" by Paul Day has been installed. The sculpture makes the point I made in the previous entry about affection in places with meaning. It's also an interesting counter to the sculpture at Penn Station in Baltimore.
