Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

I'm organizing eDemocracyCamp, a barcamp on e-democracy. It's scheduled for March 1-2, 2008 in Washington DC (the weekend immediately prior to Politics Online '08 conference). The general goal is to learn/share how the web can help us better govern ourselves, support democratic structures, make online civic participation more accessible, convenient, fun, efficient etc.

Here's where things stand:

* 80+ people signed up
* First few sponsorships raised ($1,350)
* Barely two weeks to go, and still a lot of work to do... ;-)

Here are a few links for more info, RSVP or to just stay in the loop:

* http://barcamp.org/eDemocracyCamp
* http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=6660332063
* http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/297865/
* http://twitter.com/edemocracycamp
* http://groups.google.com/group/edemocracycamp/

If you know people or organizations in the greater DC area who are into this type of thing, please help spread the word. We aim to attract a diverse audience, so anyone who can contribute (or wants to learn more about e-democracy) is most welcome to join.
------
I am going to try to attend, if only to learn about how these "barcamp" things work...

When I initially commented I clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now each time a remark is added I get four emails with the identical comment. Is there any approach you can remove me from that service? Thanks! 카지노사이트
