Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Expanding the Metro....

David, in "WMATA fantasy combo map" in the Greater Greater Washington blog, is taking a crack at conceptual maps for transit expansion including the Purple Line, an extended green line (we won't talk about that), and the separated blue line and new brown line idea for enhanced heavy rail transit within DC.

I will use a revised version of this map in my forthcoming revision to the 2008 Transit/Transportation wish list later this week.
