Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

DC House tours

1. This weekend, on Sunday, there is a house tour in Takoma DC and Takoma Park, MD. This is the first year that both DC and MD are included in the tour. Traditionally, it has just been Maryland.

2. Next weekend is the Capitol Hill House Tour. This year it ventures "beyond the boundaries" of the formally designated Capitol Hill Historic District north and east, with a lot of participation in the H Street NE neighborhood, including a Saturday night pub crawl and a Sunday reception at the H Street Playhouse. I've agreed to volunteer as a guide on one of the jitney transportation vehicles (I won't call it a bus trolley.)

See "Beyond the Boundaries: 51st Annual Capitol Hill House & Garden Tour (and pub crawl)" from the Capitol Hill Restoration Society website.
