Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Anacostia Overview

Date/time: Saturday, May 3, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Location: Ralph Garboushian, 202-547-3764,

Description:

For too long, the Anacostia Riverfront has been DC's forgotten river, its banks home to freeways and unsightly industrial uses and a mystery to many people living only a stone's throw away. The District Government has ambitious plans to spur economic development along the Anacostia Waterfront and reconnect it to adjacent neighborhoods.

Join the Sierra Club - Washington, DC Chapter as our Transportation Committee leads a bicycle tour of the banks of the Anacostia River, with a focus on the deleterious impact of previous transportation decisions and development patterns, the waterfront's potential and the challenges the District faces as it moves to implement their vision for the Anacostia River Waterfront.

The ride is suitable for bicyclists of all abilities; helmets strongly reccomended.

Pleas RSVP to Ralph Garboushian to receive the directions to the meeting place.
