Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Bike to work day? Sacramento has Bike to Work Month.

May is Bike Month, Sacramento
See "Editorial: A timely Bike Month," from the Sacramento Bee and the website, May is Bike Month.

For information on DC's Bike to Work Day, May 16th, check out the webpage on the Washington Area Bicyclist Association website.

The bicycle rack image is from the Washington Area Bicyclist Association flickr photo group.

And I think this rack design is far more elegant than the hulking racks produced by the city's Transportation Department...
