Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Highway 167 toll lane, Seattle Metro

From "HOT lane traffic moving smoothly between Auburn and Renton this morning" in the Seattle Times.

Caption: Traffic was moving smoothly this morning in the car-pool lane of Highway 167 between Auburn and Renton, where solo drivers can buy their way in by paying a variable toll. The tolls, which increase as traffic worsens, ranged from .75 to $2.25 during this morning's commute. Between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m., about 120 drivers paid to enter the northbound lane.
