Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Civic engagement and openness in government for DC Public Schools

From Marc Borbely:

We're at 778 signatures (including yours!) on our letter, asking the Council to maintain budget transparency at DCPS. We've gotten endorsements from many hundreds of DCPS parents, 19 ANC commissioners, the chairman of TENAC, and from important organizations like DC ACORN, the Metropolitan Washington Council AFL-CIO, the D.C. Federation of Civic Associations, ANC 8B and ANC 8D, the Washington Teachers Union, the DC Statehood Green Party, AFSCME District 20, Empower DC, and the Fair Budget Coalition.

The full list is here.

Just this morning, the Examiner published a strong editorial, echoing our request to the Council. (It's titled "More Transparency for District Schools, Not Less.")

Can you help, AGAIN, by finding at least one more signature to add to the list? We're hoping to get to 1,000 by Friday.

There's a petition sheet here.
