Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

McMillan Commission report online

Re the earlier entry, Judy Scott Feldman of the National Coalition to Save Our Mall reports that a few years ago, the Coalition purchased a copy of the report and created a master pdf copy, and posted it to the web, here.

Flickr image by Mr. T in DC, who writes:

[This] giant model of Washington's monumental core dating from the 1902 McMillan Commission, with the Capitol in the upper right. It's in one of the exhibits on the planning and building of the city of Washington. After taking this one non-flash photo, I was told no photography was allowed, so I put my camera away. Oops!
