Adopt a streetlight

Budget shortfalls in Plainville, Massachusetts has led the community to make the decision to shut off "street lights in areas that are seen as not threatening public safety." From the Boston Globe article "Plainville shuts off most street lights to save money":

But in a twist to the initiative, which began early this month, residents who want to keep a particular stretch of road illuminated at night can sponsor their own street light for roughly $90 to $120 a year, depending on wattage.
