Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

WalkingTownDC: volunteers needed

Capitol Hill West alley tour
Capitol Hill West alley tour, April 2007.

From Alisha Bell, Cultural Tourism DC:

Cultural Tourism DC returns with its signature bi-annual event, WalkingTown, DC. An established favorite, this celebration of Washington’s authentic character features free, guided walking tours across the city. These highlight popular neighborhoods such as U Street, Georgetown, and Dupont Circle, as well as areas off the beaten path such as Brookland, Anacostia, and the Southwest Waterfront. WalkingTown, DC will be held May 30 and 31. We need over 200 volunteers who are vital to the success of this event!

See our website description for more information.

Send an email to
Reply@CulturalTourismDC.org with your availability on May 30th and 31st or call 202-626-1148. Deadline for volunteers: May 15, 2009.
