Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

H Street Streetcar + Streetscape Mockup

John Reinhardt of the Grown in the City blog did this streetcar mock up for H Street, in response to the entry on Sunday.

Another good photo to take a crack at modifying would be this one, from Frozen Tropics

Years ago, Arlington created a video mockup, but I don't recall DC doing something similar. It's important to do this, because most people have a hard time picturing-imagining change.

-- Huge video download of the Pike Transit Columbia Pike streetcar simulation. I can't seem to find it on the PTI website.
