Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

RSS Feeds, mapping etc.

XMLHow do I get this kind of button to work in the right sidebar?

1. Matthew Gilmore dinged me in comments on the "Sim Civics" entry about the blog not being RSS-enabled. It always has been, I have just never been successful and inserting one of those fancy orange buttons that say XML and successfully link it to the feed URL. I have inserted a link to the feed URL in the right sidebar to make it a bit easier for people to find the RSS feed URL, which needs to be entered into your own RSS reader

2. Still have to take a stab at some Google mapping projects (to be disclosed later). Of course my programming skills aren't that great, so it might just mean doing stuff with the DC Guide map function at www.dc.gov. Yesterday's Post Sunday Source section had a short feature on Google Mapping with some good links to other resources. "Make Google Maps Work for You" is the article.

The Google Maps Mania blog is a great resource.

Check out Chicago Crime or Ypsi Crime (Ypsilanti, home to Eastern Michigan University, is the community next door to Ann Arbor, Michigan) for an illustration of the point made in the "Sim Civics" entry.
