Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

From the campaign:

Note that they also have an H Street walk scheduled for tomorrow, at the same time as the Florida Market tour, so I'd rather you come to the Florida Market tour.

I am going to try to attend this bike ride.

I think that DC should create an equivalent of Prince George's County's Anacostia Trails Heritage Area (I am a member) on the DC side, and that these programs could work together--or maybe the Anacostia Waterfront Corporation could reorganize its approach to combine the "community development construction" focus that dominates now, along with a greater emphasis on heritage (which the AWC is addressing at some level).

Meet in the parking lot of THE FISH MARKET on Maine Avenue
SUNDAY, OCT 15 AT 12:30 P.M.

The route will go along the Waterfront, past Fort McNair to Buzzard Point, under the South Capitol Street Bridge around the Baseball Stadium site, down M Street past the Navy Yard, and back to Marty's.

Bring your bike, wear a helmet. The route is still a little bumyp, but will be part of the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail in the Future.
