Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Streetcars for H Street

The Frozen Tropics blog reports, in "Streetcars Make Mayor's 2008 Budget," that the Mayor's 2008 Capital Budget includes money to purchase streetcar vehicles for H Street and more vehicles for the Anacostia line. It's not clear to me if the vehicles will be two-car trainsets--Portland has one-car train sets. I think that two-car sets are desireable, because many more people ride transit in DC than they do in Portland.
