Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Calling in service requests to the City

Water Main Break at Work

You never know if it is your report that makes a difference, but you do see things get fixed... such as the dead tree on the 3500 block of 12th Street NE, or the broken water pipe on the 1800 block of Montana Avenue NE--but both problems are fixed--the water pipe within a few days (I put in a request last Weds. or Thursday and I noticed today that it was fixed).

Please step up and put in service requests for problems in the public space such as broken curbs and sidewalks, graffiti on street signs, broken pipes, etc.

A better city is dependent on your eyes and reporting in order to make things better.
