Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

I have an art concept...

The bridge to nowhere

An announcement from the FindArt e-newsletter:

Public Art: Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport - AK

Deadline: May 23, 2007. Budget: $313,000. The Alaska State Council on the Arts announces a Call to Artists for the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport . The Public Art Committee is issuing a Request For Qualifications for interior artwork at three locations: Ticket Lobby, Clerestory, Concourse B Corridor & Gates. This RFQ is open to all statewide, national and international artists and teams of artists. Artists may be considered for more than one site. Submissions will be judged on a competitive basis from which up to five finalists will be selected for each site and paid to develop a proposal. For the complete RFQ, visit Artist Opportunities on the
Alaska State Council on the Arts web site.

I have a suggestion, how about a bridge theme? See "The Bridge to Nowhere: A National Embarrassment," "A bridge to nowhere," and "Alaska thanks you."
