A very troubling DC government constitutional violation
is recounted by Gary Imhoff in the current issue of themail, and the experience of his wife, Dorothy Brizill, one of the city's leading good government watchdogs. I think he has a good case against the DC Government generally, and the DC Government employee who had him arrested. I am pretty sure that government employees are personally liable also for such violations as it doesn't appear as if this action falls under "qualified immunity."
But then, I am not a lawyer.
This incident embarrasses me as a citizen of the United States.
2. But this also reiterates my point that the Attorney General position in DC government should be separately elected by the citizens in the general election, and not appointed by the Mayor. This branch should be somewhat independent from the chief executive, because the law belongs to the people first and foremost, not to the elected officials. (cf. "Saturday Night Massacre from Wikipedia about the resignation of Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus during the Watergate scandal.)
3. Every once in awhile, it's a good idea to read through this document, to refresh your memory about citizenship in the United States:
-- Constitution of the United States of America
