Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

To get more money for railroads

"... there is an even better way for the Legislature to help New York’s railroads become more dependable and faster. More lawmakers should abandon their cars and S.U.V.’s and take the train. Only about a dozen legislators regularly travel by rail to the state capital. Just as Mr. Bruno’s experience helped fuel his support of high-speed railroads, a few more Amtrak tickets might finally get the rest of the Legislature on the right track."

So says the New York Times in the regional editorial, "Riding the High-Speed Rail."
