Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Water: The next depleted resource that will limit sprawl

I sometimes wonder if the midwest will experience a new renaissance due to the great supply of water within the Great Lakes.

Meanwhile, the south faces serious water access issues, particularly in Georgia, where there are serious usage restrictions in the Atlanta region, see "Water rows in the South Take them to the river" from the Economist and "Wasteful water habits dry up, for some" from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Independent reports that this is an issue in Europe as well, see "Arid Barcelona forced to import water."
