Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Gas station protest (art)

production.sign.shell.no
I haven't written about this having been a bit involved. One of the players is the odious John Ray. Check out the website for more. Frozen Tropics has a post on it, "Oh Shell No." Many comments, and as you can imagine, many I don't agree with. Sometimes even a blighted site is better to not be developed in the interim rather than have a relatively noxious use in the mean time. Remember, in the retail business, "short term" tends to be a minimum period of at least 10-15 years.
