Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Maryland State Secretary of Transportation appointed to be Dep. Secretary of the US DOT

John Porcari was just announced as deputy secretary of US DOT. See "Md. transportation head tapped for federal post" from the Baltimore Sun and "Maryland Moment: Obama Taps Porcari for Transportation Post" from the Post. No idea of who will replace him at the Maryland State level. He knows what's up with the FTA scoring methods for transit projects...

This is a good appointment.

Also see, "Speaking of the Purple Line," an entry from December, which was in part about a presentation at which then Maryland Secretary of Transportation, John Porcari, spoke at, saying great things.
