Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Don't forget -- DC history/place walking tours this weekend

Walking Town DC logo

Walking Town DC, the twice yearly weekend set of walking or bicycling tours of places around the city, which is organized by CulturalTourismDC, is scheduled for this coming weekend, Saturday September 19th and Sunday September 20th.

I am leading two tours, one of the Florida Market on Saturday, and an H Street mostly alley tour on Sunday. (WRT the alley tours--I do one of Capitol Hill east alleys in the spring--I am not sure how long I will continue to do them as they are a lot of work.)
