Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Parks #2: Columbia Pike neighborhood, Arlington County, Virginia

I didn't know that the Columbia Pike neighborhood is going through a plan update, see the webpage for the project on the Arlington County website, which includes links to a policy framework plan and other resources.

-- Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization

I mention this because the parks planning section of AECOM, led by my favorite parks planner in the U.S., David Barth, is heading up the parks and open space element of the planning process.

There are meetings tonight and tomorrow about the policy framework and illustrative sections.

If you go to the sessions, you get a chance to see him in action.

I am going to try to get there tomorrow night.
