Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Youth Bike Summit, New York City

Image from the Tucson Velo blog entry, "Reactions from the Youth Bike Summit" (2011).

One project that was mentioned tangentially by one of the presenters, Pasqualina Azzarello, executive director of Recycle-A-Bicycle, at the session on "Building Successful Programs in Diverse Neighborhoods" at the National Bike Summit, was the organization's creation and sponsorship of an annual summit on youth biking, the Youth Bike Summit annual conference in New York City.

They got the idea while attending the National Bike Summit in 2010, with some of their youth interns in tow.

They've done this twice now, in 2011 and 2012.

How cool is that!?
