Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Voices on the subway

The Express blog and hard copy have been discussing the new voice on the subway cars, Randi Miller. They aren't happy. The Portland Oregonian has a story, "To the voice of MAX, it's more than a train," about the person who does the Spanish-language announcements on the Tri-Met MAX system in Portland. The article has a link to an interview with Enrique Andrade, the "voice."

I myself am a fan of Charlie Pellett, the guy who says "stand clear of the closing doors please" on the New York Transit subway cars. Apparently he works for Bloomberg Radio.
