Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Illustrated urbanism glossary

From an e-list:

Check this out, it's very well done. A good primer for those relatively new to smart growth principles. It might be a good model to follow for basic public education before and during charrettes.

Glossary of Planning Terms, from the City of Cleveland 2020 Citywide Planning effort. (Note that while I don't think DC produced such a glossary in its Comprehensive Plan revision process, the Office of Planning commissioned a series of excellent papers on various planning and land use issues that face the city. Click on Vision Policy Papers, to access the 8 papers produced.)
