Another sorry indicator for DC
The Gazette Newspapers of Maryland report, in "Redskins move back to Washington is unrealistic, officials say: But that doesn’t stop the hopeful talk" that for some unfathomable reason DC elected officials believe that it makes sense to try to reattract the Redskins.
(Hey, let them stay in PG County, it's better for DC, and let Tyson's Corner have above-ground "subway" service too. That's also better for DC.)
From the article:
D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty is helping keep the hope alive. He told Bloomberg News Service that he would like to see the team back in the District, and that he would be meeting with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder in early April. Fenty spokeswoman Carrie Brooks confirmed that Fenty and Snyder are scheduled to meet, but said it was only an ‘‘introductory meeting” — their first since Fenty became mayor. She said Fenty is not actively advocating moving the Redskins back.
Fenty’s comments add impetus to a campaign driven mainly by D.C. Councilman Jack Evans, who started talking about such a move last fall. Evans said that he and Snyder had talked informally about building a new domed stadium on the site of RFK Stadium, where the team used to play.
