Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

New Orleans: July 23 Public Notice of Imminent Threat

Karen Gadbois is a revitalization activist in New Orleans. Among her many activities are the Squandered Heritage and NO [New Orleans] Broken Windows websites.

She sends us notice about two days of demolition notices in New Orleans. If you click through on the photo, you can go to the live Google Map that she created to track demolition permit requests.

Karen writes:

The list I sent you are generated from the City. They represent INVOLUNTARY demolitions. This whole thing is out of control. See my blog entry "Dead House Walking" for more.
