Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

College Park redevelopment -- the creation of the "East Campus" Town Center starts tonight

From email:

A reminder that the first meeting of the East Campus Community Review Steering Committee will take place next Monday. Please spread the word via your town and neighborhood listservs. College Park and neighboring towns have 17 representatives on this committee and the campus community has an equal number. VP of Administrative Affairs Doug Duncan will serve as chair.

As a state agency, the University is *exempt* from the usual planning review process. This is our opportunity for input.

Monday's meeting will include a presentation of the developer's concept. If you have missed this previously, please try to make room in your schedule. At subsequent meetings the committee will consider various facets of the development and its impact.

Committee Meetings
Meetings will be from 7:30-9:30 pm in the Visitor Center Auditorium in Turner Hall. \
(This building is located on Rte. 1/Baltimore Avenue)

Monday, August 13 & 27
Wednesday, September 12 & Monday, September 24
Monday, October 8 & 22

There are a lot of issues and the meetings will address different topics each time. Learn more here and review the concept here.
