Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Transport for London bicycle ad

Washcycle likes this ad more than I do. I think it's a little indirect, and for me, doesn't push the main message, that a bike gets you around the city a lot faster than many other modes. Instead, this ad strikes me as focusing more--at least in terms of the imagery--on recreational bicycling.

BUT, the ad is great in terms of its production values and professionalism. Typically, government-oriented marketing tends to be stale.

This video interviews the creators of the ad.

Thanks to Washcycle for the heads up.
