"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Back to school: 116 best books in architecture, from ArchDaily

"116 Best Architecture Books for Architects and Students"

It starts with A Pattern Language by Christopher Alexander et al., so you know it's likely to be a good list, even if architects can be city damagers--architecture, starchitecture, buildings as sculpture rather than being concerned with context, ego-techiture, etc.--as much as they can be city builders.
