Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Save Our Small Shops (UK)

Derelict London is a photo site for London beyond the travel books... one of the sections is on retail shops and the decline of indpendently owned stores. It mentions the Evening Standard newspaper's campaign to Save Our Small Shops and the The All-Party Parliamentary Small Shops Group task force of the UK Parliament, which reviewed the state of independent retail in the UK and published this report, HIGH STREET BRITAIN: 2015.

According to the Standard, "London has lost more than 7,000 individual or family-owned shops in the past six years."
