Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

We're (not) connected to you by more than power lines ®

Pepco's slogan is "We're connected to you by more than power lines."®.

Presumably that means there's a relationship involved. A number of bloggers attended the presentation last week by James (Jim) Sebastian and Heather Deutsch from DC's Department of Transportation about the progress of the Metropolitan Branch Trail for bicycling and walking.

Apparently the big holdup is a transfer of land from Pepco, which is stalled.

The "solution" or the ability to apply pressure is really quite simple:

1. File a complaint with the DC Public Service Commission. They will investigate it. Pepco is regulated by the PSC.

2. Start calling Vincent Orange every day. He's the regional vice president for DC for Pepco. That means he handles government relations. Since DC regulates the electric utility company, in theory Pepco wants that relationship to be hunky-dory.

202-872-2000 is the general number for Pepco.

Make it a little less comfortable, and the property division and the lawyers will get some motivation to move things along.
