Alleys and a manifesto?
I should have mentioned that on the upcoming WalkingTownDC tour days of April 26th and April 27th, I will be leading tours of alleys.
On Saturday it will be of mostly alleys in Southeast, in Capitol Hill (we will foray across East Capitol into NE for a bit), from 3rd and Independence to Gessford Court SE.
(I'd like to do a tour of alleys around the Potomac Avenue SE Metro Station, but I just don't have enough time. There are some alleys there with active industry, including the DDOT sign shop.)
On Sunday, it will start at the NY Avenue Metro Station and we will travel up and around H St. NE, ending behind the Atlas Theater. (On that tour we will visit the inside of one, maybe two, inhabitated alley dwellings--the one that is confirmed is a true alley dwelling, the other is more of a "court-like" alley, not quite a street, but much more open compared to the other.)
And we might have a list of proposals by then with regard to zoning regulations and alley dwellings.
Now is a good time to raise the issue, because the City is undertaking a massive review of zoning regulations to make sure that zoning rules follow the recently revised Comprehensive Plan.
