Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

The launch of the Streetsblog network

Streetsblog, the NYC-based blog which is a project of The Open Planning Project , has organized a "network" of like-minded urbanism-oriented blogs across the country. See "Introducing the Streetsblog Network."

In the DC area, the following blogs are included:

Arlington's Car-Free Diet Blog Arlington, VA
Promoting car-free transportation options.

Beyond DC Washington, DC
Transportation policy and smart growth in Washington, D.C.

Greater Greater Washington Washington, DC
The Washington, DC, area is great. But it could be greater.

Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space Washington, DC
Focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work.

Rethink College Park College Park, MD
Helping imagine a great college town for a great university.

WashCycle Washington, DC
Cycling advocacy in the nation's capital.

I have links to a number of the other blogs, but there are many good ones I've missed... Check out the About Streetsblog Network entry for all the links. For the purpose of this entry, I haven't included the blogs from Baltimore and RoVA that are also listed. (Speaking of expansiveness of the greater region though, yesterday I added newspaper media links for Charleston and Martinsburg, WV and York, PA.)
