Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

WMATA Fare increase hearings

Over the next two weeks, WMATA will be holding hearings about the proposed fare increases for FY2013.

-- Docket B12-01: Proposed FY2013 Fare Adjustments and Docket B12-02: Proposed FY2013 Capital Improvement Program and Federal FY2012 Grant Applications
-- "Metro to hear from riders on fare increases," Washington Post

I wish that the local jurisdictions were in the position to provide more appropriations so that fares wouldn't have to be raised. I do not agree with the massive price increases for "one way" farecard use.

The public hearings will begin at 7:00pm on each of the nights listed below.

Monday, February 27th: Bethesda Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda

Wednesday, February 29th: Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School Cafeteria, 7130 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church

Thursday, March 1st: Matthews Memorial Baptist Church, John H. Kearney Sr. Fellowship Hall, 2616 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE, DC

Monday, March 5th: Washington Lee High School Cafeteria, 1301 N. Stafford St., Arlington

Tuesday, March 6th: St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, 4201 Albemarle St. NW, DC

Wednesday, March 7: First United Methodist Church, 6201 Belcrest Rd., Hyattsville
