Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Gotham Gazette has a great piece about continued organizing and reaction against the Atlantic Yards proposal in Brooklyn, in "Atlantic Yards: A “Done Deal?” by Tom Angotti.

It turns out that a new film on the organizing around and against the project, Brooklyn Matters, shows some of the depth and nuance of the opposition.

Brooklyn Speaks is a website that is an excellent resource on the general subject too, as is Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn.
